Oscar Vasquez, Jr., born May 7, 1980 in Rio Grande City, TX has his valley roots inside of him. (The only thing is, he’s so damn BIG he lost ‘em for a ‘lil while) In Laredo, TX, in the summer of ’98, Oscar started a radio career as a weekend/board operator for Radio Knext 106DOT1. (The #1 Station in the nation/Arbitron ’98) Working alongside Bobby Macias was an “honor and pleasure.” “I remember listening to Bobby Macias on the radio while he worked @ Z93. I was in high school at the time and I always thought, ‘damn’ must be nice…. So I had a friend in high school who was working there at the time, and as any typical teenager, kept on (how they say ) “Chingando” and finally got a shot at submitting an “aircheck” to the Program Director at the time. He liked. I’m in. Now comes the fun part. Meeting Bobby Macias. He would criticize me, reprimand me, get after my ass, showing me what radio tips and tricks he knew. Then he brings me into his home, to meet his family (SHOUTS OUT TO NITZA, KRYSTAL AND D’JEY WITH LOTS OF LOVE!!!) and to eat HIS food. HaHa! (thanx Bobby) In his studio, I would stay up with him ‘til 4:00, 5:00, 6:00am (SHIT!) and tomorrow was another day. Always listening and learning to what Bobby had to offer. If you’re asking how the name Vicious came out, well we were at a remote, and Bobby just blurted it out. ViciousV. And that was it, Vicious Vicious Vicious. Ask him what my real name is, he’ll probably say like “Lencho” or something. So, Bobby moves to the Valley to work at KIWW Puro Tejano 96.1. I get the honor of working his afternoon 2p-7p shift on the radio. He calls me up and tells me there’s work over here for me. I’ve worked for (2) Tejano Stations, had the #1 Corridos Show at night, and I’m still workin’ for the #1 Production Team the Valley has ever seen. And all thanx to Bobby Macias.
